Creative task 1- 180 degree rule/ shot reverse shot
During this lesson we experimented with different camera angles and rules. We used the 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot.
180 degree rule
This rule states that there is an imaginary axis between the two characters in the scene. They keep the camera on one side of the axis, so character one is always frame right of the second character, who is then always frame left of the first character. If you break the line you are "jumping the line" or "crossing the line". If you break the 180 degree rule by shooting on all sides it is known as shooting on the round.
Shot reverse shot
This is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. The audience assume that the characters are looking at each other because the characters are shown facing opposite directions.
Me and my group did two attempts at this the first one was a fight scene and the second was a simple conversation. We decided to edit but not use the fight scene as it was much more complicated and harder to get right. We experimented with both shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. The 180 degree rule was a lot simpler to get right, so we used this in the main sequence.
The fight scene is here:

The conversation is here:
The conversation was much more effective at displaying the 180 degree rule.
We then proceeded to edit the two attempts and we still have not finished as this may take a while to do.
